People have been using concrete as a building material for a long time, but it took the world some time to realize that it might make for great homes. Concrete can be used in various ways and comes with many advantages, such as solid insulation, structural stability, and a great ability to withstand noise. Here is an explanation of the differences between certain types of concrete houses.
These homes are one of the most cost-effective forms of concrete houses, and on top of being cost-efficient, they are also strong. CMU blocks will require much less maintenance when compared to other building materials. CMU blocks are also relatively easy to work with, saving you time as well as money. CMU blocks are a very common building system in Florida.
Another common form of concrete homes is form poured or poured in place walls. The contractors of these homes will place insulation as well as reinforcing steel in wall forms. These wall forms will typically consist of aluminum, wood, or steel, and they are removable. After the insulation and reinforcing steel are placed, concrete is poured into the forms. After it is cured, the wall forms are removed. This method is great for saving time and is of superior strength.
Another prevalent type of concrete home is insulated concrete form (ICF) homes. In these homes, contractors use foam blocks that are filled with reinforced concrete. They do this to give the house better insulation, significantly lowering the heating and cooling bills from what you would find in other homes. In addition, these homes are well sealed, meaning that it will be hard for any unwanted guests to come in, such as pests and rainwater.
Instead of putting the concrete blocks together on-site, other home styles use precast panels or tilt-wall systems. Manufacturers build these panels at a plant, and builders transport them to the construction site. Of course, doing this is more expensive, but overall, they are more efficient and stronger than traditional concrete blocks.
