When most people begin the search for their dream home they tend to focus on the exterior. The first impression of your home is definitely an important aspect, but it’s the floor plan, or home design, that enhances the way you live day to day. More and more, one-story luxury home plans have become the trend.
Why? Many aging baby boomers are trading in two stories for one story due to declining health and/or projecting their needs for the future. Some younger families are opting for a more open concept to keep an eye on the kids, and with bedrooms all on one floor. In a survey by the National Association of Home Builders, it states most home buyers (57 percent) prefer a single-story home.
Building your one-story luxury dream home doesn’t have to mean sacrificing space for convenience. Designs of large one-story luxury home plans are a specialty of Sater Design, as well as smaller but still spacious one-story luxury home plans for families who are looking to downsize.
When it comes to choices in home design, single story homes offer more flexibility in the design. Without another level overhead, vaulted ceilings are one such design feature. Many of the Sater Design one-story luxury plans, such as our “Vittoria” plan, offer open living spaces with high ceilings and large windows, adding to the spacious atmosphere.
When looking for extra space for entertaining, one option is expanding your one-story living to the outdoors. More seamless spaces that allow movement to flow from indoors to out, such as with Sater Design’s “Caprina” plan, create a natural extension of your home. Sliding glass pocket doors open to create additional seating on the lanai, with a beautiful outdoor fireplace as the centerpiece.
If a smaller one-story luxury home plan is what you are searching for, one option would be our “Alston” plan. This 1808 sq. ft. plan has combined great room, kitchen and informal dining areas, as well as a large veranda accessible from both the great room and master bedroom.
No matter the size or style of your dream home, be sure to take note of your lifestyle as well as what you hope to accomplish before you begin your search.
