Florida Room – Not Just For Florida Anymore

Don’t be fooled by the name, a Florida Room is a great item to have in almost any location. Traditionally a Florida Room is a structure that is integrated into a home that allows you to enjoy the surrounding landscape while being protected from the elements.

Florida Rooms are great to have in Florida, obviously, but they should not be relegated to just the sunshine state. A Florida Room is a great way to take in the beautiful vistas of the southwest while sheltering you from the hot sun. During the winter when the sun is low in the sky the Florida Room will serve as a way of warming a home with passive solar heating.

The best way to take advantage of the Florida Room is to combine it with an open floor plan and large sliding glass doors. That will open the house up to the outdoors. Not only will you have great views but you will get refreshing breezes throughout the house. If the weather is too cool to open the house up you can close the outer glass doors and still have the open feeling.

If you have property that is situated in the woods a Florida Room can be a great tool to make you feel like you are part of the forest. When you blur the lines between inside and out you create a unique living style. You will feel more connected to the world around you.

When a Florida Room is incorporated correctly it can be a great 3 season space.

Many people in northern climates use their outdoor grills all winter long. Imagine if that grill was protected from the weather. By adding a built-in gas grill and a fireplace to a Florida Room you really have something special. Picture sitting by a warm fire while grilling up dinner on a cool winter evening.

 

Labels sometimes limit our thinking about things. With a little imagination the space and versatility that a Florida Room can add to a home, in any location, can totally change its character.
