Ceilings are one of the most overlooked parts of a house. Most people settle for boring, flat ceilings, and don't even realize what a difference decorative ceilings treatments can make to their overall decor. Ceiling treatments can create identity for individual spaces in multi-use rooms, create separation, bring heightened scale and importance, and even evoke an emotional reflection to a room and its purpose.
One of the most distinguishable features in a Sater Design house plan is the highly detailed ceiling treatments. I thought I would give you a brief glossary of some of the more popular ceilings types.
Tray Ceiling - An inverted indentation with sloped sides and a flat top.
Stepped Ceiling - An inverted indentation with stair-stepped sides and a flat top.
Coffered Ceiling - A ceiling with beams laid out in an intersecting grid pattern with regular intervals.
Pyramid Vault - A vaulted ceiling working gradually to a central point.
Groin Vault - The intersection of two barrel vaults in opposite directions.
Cove Lighting - Concealed lighting used in a recess.
In many ways, the ceilings set the tone for the entire home so when you’re looking through our Sater Design house plans, be sure to take note of the beautiful ceilings which were specifically chosen to compliment each room in a Sater home.
