Choosing which plan format to purchase can be confusing. There is no “correct” or “better” format. It really just depends on your individual needs.
Vellum is the most popular format. It is a translucent, erasable paper that the plan is printed on and can be used for minor modifications by erasing and redrawing the lines using an electric eraser. Then copies can be made as needed.
PDF format is getting more popular since it provides the quickest way to receive your plans. We e-mail the plans as a set of PDF files. Your local print shop can make prints for you as needed. Be aware that PDF files are not editable.
AutoCAD format is used when you want to make changes to your plan. All the pages of the plan are saved on a CD disc in AutoCAD format. With the proper AutoCAD software your designer/draftsman can make changes in a computer. Copies can then be printed from the disc.
It’s always a good idea to talk to your builder who can advise you which format would be the best for you. And as always, if you have any questions feel free to give us a call. We’re always here to help!
