I can’t tell you how many times I have heard potential clients ask, “How much would it cost to build this house?” This is understandably an important and necessary question when choosing a plan. There are many factors to take into consideration to determine value and quality of a home, like ceiling heights and details, window brand, wood species for cabinets and floors. Two houses could be the same square footage and one could be double the price than another because of details, selections and lot conditions, as well as what area of the country they will be building.

There are building calculators available on the Internet, but can be confusing. What I suggest to clients is to first find a builder in the area where they plan to build. We have a link on our website called “Find a Builder”. These are builders who have either built Sater designed homes or are at least familiar with our plans. A potential client can show the builder the floor plan and elevation of the plan they are interested in, either on our website or in one of our publications. Builders will know what questions to ask the client that would enable them to provide an approximate cost to build. Also the builder is welcome to give us a call with any questions they may have to help them figure the costs.

Getting a reliable quote for cost to build is an important step in the early stages of deciding what plan is right for you. As you begin compiling this information then you will slowly understand the cost of building your own home and be headed in the right direction of success.
